Who is Bikram
Bikram Choudhury is an internationally renowned yoga teacher from India who has taught over 3 million students.
At the invitation of the American Medical Association, he brought his system to the United States in 1971.
In a 3 year research project at the Tokyo University Hospital, Bikram helped doctors prove that yoga regenerates tissues and thus helps cure chronic ailments.
Bikram began studying yoga at the age of 4. At 12 years of age, he was the youngest ever national yoga champion of India and held the title for 3 consecutive years. Bikram went on to pursue an athletic career as a marathon runner and champion weight-lifter, setting world record lifts and competing in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo.
At the age of 20, a weight-lifting accident severely crippled him. With the guidance of his guru, Bishnu Ghosh, Bikram created his 26 pose series which restored his health.
Since then, Bikram has established himself as a world expert teacher, opening schools throughout the East. Combing Eastern doctrine with years of working with Western doctors and scientists at Tokyo University Hospital, Bikram perfected his comprehensive system.
Bikram's personal clients in Los Angeles include many celebrities and professional athletes.
Bikram says: "Never too late, never too old, never too bad and never too sick to do yoga and start from scratch again".
