Our Yoga room, eco Statement
For Our Planet:
As part of our environmental policy, our business has signed up with Origin Energy in a program called Business Green Earth.
This program purchases electrical power for our business from a wind farm. Currently the maximum amount a business can dedicate to renewable sources is 20%. We have advised Origin that as new renewable energy programs become available, we will take that option immediately.
We also participate in a carbon offset program with Origin Energy for our natural gas usage. We have arranged for a 100% carbon offset of our carbon footprint from gas consumption, by supporting tree planting to capture CO2, and also by supporting technology to trap methane gas from escaping from waste land fill sites. Nothing is cleaner than natural gas!
In practicing yoga you have made a commitment to yourself to take care of that beautiful body that carries your soul through this life. By being GREEN we can all help to take care of GAIA, this beautiful earth, which carries ALL of us through our lives.
For Our Students:
We believe that it is important to not only consider what you do with your body (your Bikram yoga practice), and what you put in your mind (thoughts, goals, etc.), but ALSO what you put on your body (soaps etc.)
At the sides of the yoga room we have installed two screen doors which allows us to cross- ventilate the studio between classes to help freshen and dry out the room and carpet to prevent accumulation of moisture that may allow bacterial growth. We also use a Fresh Air Sponge in the return air which gathers microbial bacteria into a gelatinous bucket. The air you breathe is clean and fresh, probably much cleaner than the environment.
To further sanitize the studio environment, we use a proffessional carpet cleaner who uses steam and a product called Green Balance. This product is safe and effective and helps the carpet to resist soiling. It contains no carcinogens and is non toxic.
Humidifiers
We have two humidifiers in our room:
Ionmax Ion60 Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier and Ioniser
The benefits of optimal humidity
Allergens, dust particles and bacteria die up to 20 times faster in air with a relative humidity of 45 to 55%, and the body’s immune system functions better in air with a relative humidity of 45 to 65%. Proper air humidification can help avoid respiratory infections, nose bleeds, dry skin, muscle pain, sinus and nasal pain and sore eyes.
Negative ions
A high concentration of electrically charged negative ions in the air contributes to a general feeling of well-being. In enclosed spaces the number of ions in the air can become depleted. The Ion60’s built-in ioniser generates vitalising negative ions to create a better environment for your home or office, and promote better breathing health.
The ionised mist the Ion60 creates will maintain an optimal comfortable living and working environment and fill it with vital negative ions.
Mat Cleaning
Our mats are cleaned daily with Eucalyptus which is Eucalyptus oil is antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, the antiseptic and deodorant nature of eucalyptus oil makes it a perfect room freshener for hospitals and sickbed atmosphere. It also kills bacteria and germs in the air and hence keeps the room environment clean.
